Welcome to MEF's Fall Read-A-Thon!
This fun event encourages the joys of reading and raises money for our schools. Students will log the amount of time they read and collect donations from friends and family to raise money to support the MEF's 2022-23 fundraising goal of $650,000.
The MEF supports schools in the Millbrae School District – which is one of the lowest funded school districts in San Mateo County – by funding social emotional learning, music, arts and STEAM curricula for our kids, professional development for our teachers, and technology integration and support.
Step 1. Raise money, create a donation page.
If every Millbrae School District student could raise at least $100 per student, together we could raise over $200,000 for our schools. All donation amounts are welcomed. (Fundraising is strongly encouraged but not required to participate.) Create your fundraising page today and send it to your family and friends!
Step 2. Read. Read. Read.
All reading counts including the books that are read to you! Try to read at least 30 minutes a day from January 9 to January 23 and keep track using this paper log. Submit your paper log at the end of the read-a-thon or better yet, fill out this google form every week! The more you read, the more chances you have to win prizes!
Step 3. Everybody wins just by participating!
FOR YOU: Top Readers in grades TK-2, 3-5 & 6-8 will win a Gift Basket full of books and prizes generously donated by Patti Miyakawa. This will be determined by total minutes logged in.
FOR YOUR CLASS: Every elementary classroom that participates in the read-a-thon will earn class prizes. Teachers will submit minutes read in class. These minutes will be counted towards the school prize!
FOR YOUR TEACHER: Teachers who submit the minutes read in their classroom will earn 1 raffle ticket towards a $50 gift card.
FOR YOUR SCHOOL: If your school reads a total of 35,000 minutes, kids will get to watch their PRINCIPAL get slimed, pied or dunked!
FUNDRAISE FOR PRIZES! Earn raffle tickets with your fundraising efforts.
Create a fundraising page by January 15, and earn 1 raffle ticket toward a $25 gift card
Get at least 5 donors, and earn 1 raffle ticket toward a $50 gift card. (One winner from each school)
For every $100 you raise, earn 1 raffle ticket toward an Amazon Kindle.
Top 3 Fundraisers will win a $50 gift card and gift bag of prizes.
What are the important links/pages?
How do I set-up my student fundraising page?
Go to the main Read-a-Thon donation page.
Click "Create my own fundraising page".
Enter your child's first and last name and your email address (do not use student‘s millbraesd.org email address).
You will receive an email from email@example.com with a link to your child's individual page. You can leave it as-is or personalize the page (please remember to “save and publish.”)
How do I send my fundraising page to my friends and family so they can make a donation?
Forward your fundraising page link to friends and family so they can make a donation. [Note: Donations will be a flat amount, not a per minute pledge.]
What about donations by cash/check?
If you receive cash/check, Place it in an envelope clearly labeled “Read-a-Thon” with the student and teacher names. If the sponsor would like a receipt, an email address must be provided.
